Can anyone tell me if the c5 (01 in particular) comes with a heli plug in the stock oil pan? Seems as though the dealership has stripped the plug and wants me to replace it for $1500! They said it comes stock with a heli coil. I want to find out for sure before I confront them.

Sounds suspicious if you took it in for an oil change. If not then did you buy the car used - could previous owner have caused a leak by over tightening?

Here's how to get the answer. Go to a different dealer and ask:

Do you have an oil pan for an '01 C5 - if yes ask to see it... and inspect for stock heli-coil. Explain (only if you must) that you own one and you are concerned about the heli coil leaking.

If they don't have the oil pan on their shelf then you can check the diagram at their computer (it will show the heli coil part and number if one should be there). Just ask to see the diagram - they should be able to pull it up and even print it out.

Also, ask the price of a new oil pan - it may be a lot less than $1500 (prob more like $500).

Then ask them what it would cost if they replaced your entire pan ($1500 for a heli-coil job??? - Paying $1500 for a heli-coil fix is more like buying insurance 'cause this is a $75-$150 job (unless they are pulling the oil pan and replacing it ) I guess I'm misunderstanding you here. Do they want to repair it with a heli-coil and pass that off as a new pan? Or do they just want you to get a whole new pan>?
