Just curious, are you wanting to export single pages so different people could work on different sections of the file? If so you might look into using VersionCue, I've never used it, never seemed to have a reason to, but it might be useful for your situation. good luck - Read More at This Link..

Graphic Design Forum :: RE: Corel X3 Version Problem
Since i think you designed the job, wouldn't it be better to use a percentage of a color, rather than using 100% of a color and have the program add mask, or what ever to make the color lighter. Transparencies normally cause problems in print, RIPS do not always handle them correctly. I recommend you avoid using them for print design. When you use a percentage of a color, you are being straight forward. A Transparency says Make it 100 percent color but not really. - Read More at This Link..

</b></i> Don't have one as yet. The computer is being built. Was going to use Windows Server 2003 or XP, but the scsi card that prepress is recommending does not seem to have drivers for those systems, although, they also recommended those systems. I am going to go with the Panther RIP, mostly for the price. I am familiar with it ( i have 2 older versions), and it should do fine for 5 years or so. We do not do anything real complicated. So far I have been able to run most everything from my old panther that is using a very old mac rip (level 2). - Read More at This Link..

I can tell you from personal experience is that you should send out a flyer to the parents of the kids, and find out what each of them does for a living. Sometimes you get lucky. If not, then it is worth the little time and effort it took. Another way is to talk to a small to mid-sized printer and see if they will exchange personal money for company money. Often a church will look to get something for free. If you give them a personal check, get the tax write off, and have them cut a check back to the printer for the same amount. Most of the time no one can mark anything up 200%, much less 20%. As for insurance, a designer is only responsible to the proofing stage. Once a proof is made, it is the final customer that should sign off on the piece. Once signed, its the printers responsibility to match the proofs. No, when a job strikes problems and requires a re-print (i.e. the client rejects it). For example, I had a job recently where a pic file slipped through that had been enlarged nearly 200% by accident. It wasn't picked up at proof stage but the client noticed it when the job was printed. If they'd rejected the job and demanded a reprint, I would have had to pay for that, as it was essentially my fault. Luckily they didn't. Another colleague of mine produced and printed an Annual Report for a client, and some of the head shots were later decided to be 'too green' by the client. In the beginning of the digital world around the 1980s is when the Rich Black term was born. Prior to that, a Black with a cyan bump was all that was needed for a really rich black or solid black. I believe that when the graphic computers came into play in the 80's, is when the term rich black was born and given to the computer generated blacks that were in a four color job. The dumb computers assigned four colors to the blacks automatically to maintain the four colors of the job, it even made the black text in a four color job, CMYK which caused allot of headaches. Graphic Design Forum :: RE: designing business cards
WOW, and I thought I was bad. Sometimes I guess BM you just need to vent a little. Better on the &quot;little people&quot; who think that if you can create a website with a business card builder on it, you can be successful. I figure those here know that we, as prepress people, designers, owners, or just plain interested in what goes on in the printing world know that business cards are not a plug and play if you want to be successful. Successful is after you get in the door, not a generic business card left at a receptionists desk to be thrown away. Yes, my two cents are up - Read More at This Link..

Digital Printing Forum :: RE: Konica Minolta 6500 / Fiery or Creo RIP?
Hi. We have been running a Konica Minolta C6500 with the Creo IC-304 RIP for some time now and fairly happy with this combination of printer and RIP. In particular, the support that Creo has provided us for any RIP issues that we have experienced has been excellent. The IC-304 RIP is an excellent RIP. As for print counts, there isn't a counter in the RIP, however determining print start and stop times for a specific job is found in the job history log. Image position is largely determined by the engine (C6500) through adjustable settings for each... - Read More at This Link..

Digital Printing Forum :: RE: DI press vs. Digital
Hi Bill, At my prior job we ran a DI 34. Two of them actually, the 1st one was one of the 1st production units they made and had a host of teething problems. They were generally very good at fixing it, and I think they put alot of what they learned into improvements. The 2nd one was a newer unit and pretty much ran perfect right off the bat. I'd give their service and support high marks, I handled the electronic prepress end, so I didn't mess too much with the supplies side. Also we had a veteran press operator who was really good. He did tell me that when they initially prese... - Read More at This Link..

Graphic Design Forum :: RE: Prepress Lighting
Please read my reply in the other thread regarding the color of paint for your walls. You have to buy paint anyway, why not buy paint that is exactly what you need for an environment that is conducive to achieve predictable color? The paint I am recommending is a very light gray and could be considered an &quot;off white&quot;. Think of it as an &quot;off white&quot; that does not have a color cast. There are so many variables regarding color and the more of them you eliminate, the more predictable your color will be. Prepress Software :: RE: Best way to get a good black on press
The best thing to do is get a good icc profile, one that best represents the printing conditions/stock requirements for you job. Your printer might be able to advice you on this. The Coated and Uncoated FOGRA ISO standard iccs that install with Creative Suite software are pretty good for general offset jobs. However if you're looking for Newspaper profiles, you might want to download these from www.ifra.com. A good way to check the CMYK breakdown for these profiles is to load the profiel as the CMYK workspace in photoshop and create an RGB file and fill it with R=0 G=0 and B=0, then use the Info Panel ... - Read More at This Link..

Hi mazengh, Yes the i1iO is supported by Prinect Color Tools. With both, you will be able to generate your own ICC profiles. The rip would have to support ICC profiles to calibrate the proofer to a press sheet (printing target) or any other printing target, such as GRAChol as Steve mentioned. Does First Proof support ICC? If not, then you would need a proofing rip that does or stay with your current method. You can use profiles for your image or not, your choice. Prepress Software :: RE: SPOT-CMYK conversion models
In my book, you are correct, because you can tell them what your CMYK numbers are for each color. We get in a lot of spot colors that need to be process, and many times they are all different. Many designers use many different versions of the same color, and many are different. What you need to do is become consistent. The only way to tell what your CMYK value is for each color is in the application. Yes, you do need them all to be the same. Easy example to show the others is that if you get a job in, and print it today, and then the same job you need to make minor changes to comes back a year from now. You ... - Read More at This Link..
